Christmas at the Copeland’s

Christmas is one of our favorite holidays here at the Copeland’s.  We love to fill our time off with Christmas movies, cookies, hot chocolate and wrapping gifts for our friends and family.  Anyone who knows me also knows that I thoroughly enjoy decorating!  Hubby gave me one rule, I h a d to wait for the weekend after Thanksgiving to take down the fall decorations and start decorating for Christmas.  Once December 1st was here, we were off to get the perfect tree, lights went on and the boxes of Christmas tree ornaments were out.  Christmas music was loaded on the ipod and to decorating I went!  I want to share our little bungalow with you because a lot of my decor is homemade or found at thrift stores.  You CAN be on a budget and make your home feel festive for the holiday.

Christmas wreath \\ a diy project I made with my mom. Supplies: grapevine wreath, two types of eucalyptus, some clippings from a pine tree, cotton and a little sparkle I found at Michaels.  I started by layering the greenery how I wanted it to lay on my wreath and wrapped it on with floral wire. I continued this until I had the perfect amount of greenery.  To finish, I added a few cotton pieces and some sparkle.  Easy. So easy!

My star is made from pieces of drift wood I found on the Delaware river.  So special to me now as that is no longer the home I go back to since my parents have moved away.  My shelf is also a wash-up from that river mounted with L-brackets from Home Depot.  If you live in Delaware, Battery park is a great place to find old washed up pieces of wood and drift wood for home projects!

Hymnal Art \\ these pieces of music came out of my mom’s old hymnal.  She has taught music for years and years and it’s so special to me to have a piece of what she loves framed in my home.  I made the mats our of card-stock to cut down cost.

Chalkboard \\ diy chalkboard made from a large old canvas from goodwill.  The frame came with it.  I painted chalk paint directly on the old canvas that was in this frame and it’s perfect

This map ornament is now one of my favorite ornaments.  I found it at Target this year.  All of my military girl friends need this!  We put small white pins in the places we’ve lived together and will continue to add pins for each new adventure.

Cookies are always necessary when you’re decorating your Christmas tree!  I made this watercolor Christmas song into our Christmas card this year.

Let me tell you about my Christmas dishes and linens.  I found them after Christmas in 2004.  My mom and I were out shopping, I saw them, fell in love and I now own the full set.  I’ve been moving them around with me for the last 12 years and this is the very first Christmas I’ve been able to use them! I love them just the same.

Merry Christmas everyone!  I hope you enjoy your holiday surrounded by friends and family.  XO

“12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”  13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:12-14
